Whether they’re enjoyed mid-afternoon with a hot cup of tea or after dinner as a sweet dessert, the oaty bakes taste best when homemade.

All that’s needed is a few simple ingredients too, all of which can likely be found lurking in the back of the kitchen cupboard.

According to Mary Berry’s recipe, flapjacks can be whipped up with as little as just four items.

As claimed by Good to Know, the sweet treats are “so easy to prepare and only takes 30 minutes to bake”.

Method

Start by lightly buttering a roasting tin or a shallow cake tin, around 20cm by 30cm in size.

Then, combine butter, syrup and sugar in a saucepan and heat gently until the ingredients melt. Once the mixture has fully dissolved, stir in the oats and mix well.

Spoon the mixture into the prepared tin and smooth the surface using a palette knife.

Finally, bake in a preheated oven at 180C (160C fan, gas mark four) for approximately 30 minutes.

Once cooked, leave to cool in the tin for about five minutes then remove and set aside.

When the flapjacks are mostly solid with a little softness to them, slice into 24 equal fingers and enjoy.

According to Mary the oaty bites are best enjoyed warm but can also be kept in an airtight cake tin to tuck into at a later date.
